When someone says “I want to sell my diamond,” the first question is usually: what will it go for? The answer is not a single number, it’s a set of factors that determine demand and resale value in the current market. Here’s what we look at and why it matters.

1) Certification and documentation

A grading report (GIA is the most recognized) can make the process faster and more precise. Without a report, a diamond can still be evaluated, but the offer will depend on in-person verification and how the stone performs under inspection.

2) Cut quality (often the biggest lever)

Cut is about performance: how the diamond returns light. In many cases, two diamonds with the same carat, color, and clarity can price very differently due to cut quality. If you’re unsure, bring the stone, we’ll evaluate it directly.

3) Carat weight and how it “faces up”

Carat is weight, not size. Two stones can weigh the same but appear different due to proportions. Buyers also pay attention to “magic sizes” (like 1.00ct, 1.50ct, 2.00ct), where market behavior can change.

4) Color and clarity (context matters)

Color and clarity are important, but their impact depends on the range. Differences near the top grades can be priced differently than mid-range grades where the market is more forgiving.

5) Fluorescence and key characteristics

Fluorescence isn’t automatically bad. The effect depends on strength and how it affects the stone’s appearance. Other characteristics (like symmetry and polish) also influence desirability.

Practical tip: If you have a certificate, bring it. If you don’t, don’t worry, bring the item and we’ll evaluate the diamond on-site.

6) Mounting vs. loose stone

A loose diamond is faster to evaluate. If the stone is mounted, we can still assess it, but final details may require a closer inspection. Bring the ring or pendant as it is, we’ll guide you.

7) Market demand (today’s reality)

Diamond pricing is influenced by wholesale demand and liquidity. That’s why offers can move month to month. Our role is to translate the market into a fair, real-time offer.
