Estate jewelry isn’t automatically “scrap.” Some pieces carry value from design, workmanship, brand, or gemstones, even when the gold weight is modest.
When estate jewelry is worth more than melt
- Designer or signed pieces (Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef, etc.)
- Antique or period pieces (Victorian, Art Deco, mid century)
- High quality gemstones with desirable color/clarity
- Unusual craftsmanship (hand fabrication, unique settings)
When it may be primarily metal value
Common designs, heavy wear, missing stones, or highly mass-produced pieces often trade closer to metal content. That doesn’t mean it’s “bad”, it just means value is determined differently.
Tip: If you see a hallmark or maker mark, don’t polish it away. Bring the piece and let us inspect it.
